Assisting Countries in the Development of
Quality Assurance Systems
for Higher Education

THE CENTER assists national systems in the development or enhancement of quality assurance systems throughout the globe. The following list constitutes only those countries where THE CENTER has done extensive work; it does not begin to list all the countries which have sought THE CENTER's assistance by coming to our offices in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. Where regional meeting are listed, it means that most, if not all, of the countries of that region have been involved in regional quality initiatives.

In 2004, the World Bank published "Strengthening Quality Assurance in East Asia and the Pacific" by Marjorie Peace Lenn, Executive Director of the Center. This publication is the basis for national and regional initiatives in quality assurance as supported by the Bank in the region, including a US$1.1 million Development Grant Fund grant to the Asia Pacific Quality Network. The publication is available in print or electronically at:

THE CENTER provides assistance at various stages: design (including legislation or national policy development), implementation (including training) and review (evaluating an existing system and/or its member institutions). Arrangements can be made directly by a country's government or national organizations or through international organization such as those listed above. THE CENTER is a proponent of good universal practice in quality assurance and is not an advocate for any particular national system.
